If you are searching for a delicious way to make chocolate waffles, look no further. This recipe is easy, takes very little time, and satisfies even the most grumpy of women. Trust me on this one. Chocolate waffles are sure to please, whether for breakfast, dinner, or a snack in between.
Bonus points for adding fresh berries from your garden or homemade cacao powder. Local agave or maple syrup and powdered sugar also compliment these waffles nicely. The addition of chocolate chips or homemade bean to bar chocolate will add extra sweetness and chocolate flavor. Enjoy!
Recipe: Cacao Waffles
Prep & Cook Time: 15 min
Serves 2 (You may wish to double the recipe if hungry.)
Ingredients:
1 ¼ cups flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
3 tablespoons sugar
¼ teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons cacao powder (freshly ground, or commercially produced)
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1 ¼ cups milk of choice (I typically use almond milk)
½ cup chocolate chips (if desired)
fresh berries for garnish, if desired
Instructions:
- First, pre-heat waffle iron.
- Next, combine dry ingredients in a large mixing bowl. Stir until well-mixed.
- Add wet ingredients (to include chocolate chips, if desired). Stir until well-mixed.
- Then, add mix to heated waffle iron. Cook until waffle iron tells you the waffle is done (or until waffle removes easily from iron).
- Remove waffle from iron and add mix to create your second masterpiece.
- Garnish with fresh berries, or your other favorite waffle toppings, if desired.
- Eat them quickly before they disappear!
Lastly, Grump Dog wants me to let you know that you should also make a smaller batch without cacao powder or chocolate chips to feed to your favorite pet. Add a thin layer of peanut butter to a mini-waffle for extra love.
